Pillowmarks Privacy Policy

1Information We Collect

As a local-first app, Pillowmarks does not require an account and does not collect your personal identity information. Everything you enter is stored on your device:

• Hotel name, check-in and check-out dates, room type, price, and other details you enter
• Photos associated with your records
• Trip notes and tags

By default, this data exists only on your device. We cannot access, upload, or back it up.

2Order Recognition & Third-Party AI

When you use the “Order Screenshot Recognition” or “Paste Order Text” feature, Pillowmarks calls a third-party AI service (DeepSeek) to extract structured information from the order content.

Masking before upload: before sending, the app automatically masks phone numbers, ID numbers, and email addresses found in the text (replacing them with placeholders), and truncates the text to at most 5,000 characters. Other content in the order text (such as hotel name, dates, price, order number, and guest name) is uploaded as-is.

The uploaded text is processed in accordance with DeepSeek’s privacy policy. We are not responsible for the data practices of third-party services, and we encourage you to be aware of this before using the features. Outside this scenario, none of your data is ever sent to a third party.

3Photos & Photo Metadata

The “Photo Analysis” feature reads only metadata such as location and capture time of your photos, to help you review your travel history.

• All analysis is performed entirely on your device
• Photos themselves are never uploaded to any server
• Photos are accessed only after you grant photo-library permission

You can revoke this permission at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos. Revoking it disables this feature but does not affect the rest of the app.

4How We Use Information

We use the limited information described above only for the following purposes:

• Performing structured recognition of orders (via the third-party AI service)
• Generating and displaying your hotel journal and trip statistics locally on your device
• Diagnosing app issues and improving the product

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any form of commercial analytics.

5Sharing & Disclosure of Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade any of your personal information. We do not disclose your data to third parties except in the following cases:

• When you actively use the “Order Screenshot Recognition” or “Paste Order Text” feature, the necessary text content is sent to the AI service provider
• When required by law, regulation, or a mandatory request from judicial or administrative authorities

6Data Storage & Security

Your records are stored in the local storage on your device. This means:

• Deleting the app deletes your data along with it, with no way to recover it, unless you have exported a backup yourself
• We cannot recover data lost because of uninstallation, device damage, or device loss
• We recommend regularly exporting a local backup using the export feature built into the app

7Your Rights

You always have complete control over your data:

• You can view, edit, or delete any record in the app at any time
• You can remove all local data by uninstalling the app
• You can revoke photo, camera, and other system permissions in Settings at any time
• You can choose not to use the “Order Screenshot Recognition” or “Paste Order Text” features, to avoid any data leaving your device

8Children’s Privacy

Pillowmarks is not designed for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that data as soon as possible.

9Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be published on this page, and the “Last Updated” date at the top will be revised accordingly. If an update involves material changes to how your data is handled, we will notify you separately within the app.
